Milankovitch Cycles

Remember this chart?

Click on the chart.

I was wondering why the temperatures on Planet Earth had a period of some 100,000 years. What sequence of Earthly events repeats every 100,000 years?

Then I discover Milankovitch Cycles

I'm happy!

  1. But my dear distinguished professor, looking at the Antarctic Ice Core Data1 Chart, the CO2 concentration shows (to me) a high correlation with global temperature over the half-million years shown but I don’t think the cave (people) had SUVs over these half-million years!!!

I for one like the change in Earth’s orbital characteristics as the most logical explanation for global temperature changes.

Thanks for the neat blog entry.

I'm quite sure I saw photos of cave drawings with a late model Toyota 4Runner.

Then again, it may have been a 1Runner (?)
