Climate, not weather

This is hilarious:

Does anybody really believe that one-day weather events (or one century or one millenium) can prove or disprove global climate change?

Remember this guy? (Click on the picture.)

re Climate change deniers: Which is more humorous?
Their arguments or their antics.

Al Gore may have placed too much emphasis on the (human) cause of climate change, but not the fact. I'm often tempted to analyze recent weather patterns using Mean and Volatility a la stock market analysis.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for helping bring sensibility into the climate change discussions. I accept that the climate is changing but not primarily (if at all) due to human activities.

I love your orbital demonstrations and your temperature/CO2 chart. To me, the exceedingly complex orbital variations are the most logical explanation of climate change. Also, the cave drawing notwithstanding, there just weren't enough cave men driving SUV's to explain the historical climate temperature variation shown on your exceedingly fine chart.

Sadly, the general public has not seen high-quality, understandable, alternative explanations of the cause(s) of global warming. This vacuum has left the door open for non-scientist such as AlGore to promote their own (convenient and self-serving) interpretation of the causes of global warming.

Thanks for your web site and blog,

  2. Horace:
The interesting thing about explanations that involve the Earth's motion is that other planets in the solar system are undergoing "global" warming.

However, I'm (almost) certain that there are no SUVs on Mars :^)

  4. My Dear Distinguished Professor Ponzo,

You might find the following orbital simulation tool interesting. Please also check out the "About..." box in the upper left.
